Teaching Tips

Teachers not only teach content.  Perhaps more importantly, teachers teach self-regulation skills.  I’ve done a post before about my belief that intrinsic motivation is prerequisite for meaningful learning.  An article by Dr. Dembo, a retired USC professor, incorporates motivation as one of six key aspects of self-regulation/self-awareness that we should post in our classrooms and incorporate in our teaching:

Motivation (why are you learning?)

Methods of learning (how will you learn?)

Time management (when will you learn?)

Physical environment (where will you learn?)

Social environment (with whom will you learn?)

Performance (how are you performing?)
